Henderson State University’s Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Steve Knight, will present a concert on March 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Arkansas Hall auditorium. The program, entitled This World Alive, will feature a new work by the same name. This World Alive, with music composed by Steve Danyew and a film by Cuyler Bryant, is a unique mixed-media experience inspired by the photography of Ansel Adams.
The concert will also feature flute soloist Jennifer Amox and oboe soloist Dr. Shannon Clardy on a wind transcription of Gustav Holst’s A Fugal Concerto. The Wind Ensemble will also perform: Celebration Overture by Paul Creston; Firefly by Ryan George; Radiant Joy by Steven Bryant (guest conductor Ingrid Larragoity-Martin); and Cartoon by Paul Hart.
On March 4, the Concert Band, also under the direction of Knight, will be in concert in the Evanson Band Hall at 7:30 p.m. The program, entitled Another Time and Place, will feature music that depicts a variety of cultures and historical periods around the world.
Music includes: Celtic Ritual by John Higgins; Ere the World Began to Be by Jack Stamp; Fanfare, Ode & Festival by Bob Margolis; Cajun Folk Songs by Frank Ticheli; Three Ayres from Gloucester by Hugh M. Stuart; Prairie Schooner by Bruce Preuninger; and March Elegant by Calvin Custer.
Both performances are free and open to the public. The Evanson Band Hall is part of the Russell Fine Arts Center.
