NuFusion concert April 18

© Henderson State UniversityNuFusion, Henderson State University’s exciting student jazz ensemble, will perform a free concert outdoors on Henderson’s Quad Friday, April 18, at 8 p.m. The performance will feature a wide range of music, much of which was arranged by students.

“This is a great family event,” said Dr. Rick Dimond, director of the group. “Bring family, friends, blankets, Frisbees, beach balls, bubbles, and enjoy the show.”

NuFusion includes about 20 student musicians and features a standard big band horn and rhythm section with lead and background vocalists. The concert will feature music by Wings, Kelly Clarkson, Mumford and Sons, Blues Brothers, Tina Turner, Capitol Cities, Daft Punk, Justin Timberlake, and others.

This year, NuFusion will honor Dr. Maralyn Sommer, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs. Sommer, who is retiring, had previously served as dean of the Ellis College of Arts and Sciences. Sommer plays the bassoon and will be featured in one of the songs. “This may be the first time in history a bassoonist has played jazz in an outdoor setting,” Dimond said.

The Quad area is located between the Garrison Center and Russell Fine Arts building. In case of rain, the concert will be held in Wells Gym. For more information, please call Dimond at (870) 230-5016.
